EE Times Article: featuring Russ Garcia, Menlo Micro CEO
In this episode of EE Times’ Silicon Grapevine, we catch up with Menlo Micro CEO Russ Garcia about his journey. Coming from a family of electronic engineers, Russ himself graduated as an EE in 1983 and began his career with Hughes Aircraft after completing an internship there.
An interesting part of his journey is that most of the companies he’s worked with have been within a 10-mile radius and at most a 30-minute commute, all in southern California.
He talks about the massive learning and growing up from companies like Hughes, Plessey Semiconductors, Silicon Systems, and TI when it acquired Silicon Systems. He also talks about how he “grew up” during his period at Wispry and how he learned from a number of people such as Jim Peterson, Rick Clemmer, and several others.
We also learn about what he considers his biggest achievements, such as the art of integration after several acquisitions, plus that of building something from scratch as they have done with Menlo Micro.
Finally, Russ offers his advice to youngsters: Chaos is where opportunities come from, so it’s important to be able to recognize those opportunities.
